About Dan
As managing director of the consulting and advisory firm Kaufman Hall, a Vizient company, Dan Clarin leads Innovation and Insights for the firm. In this role, he guides Kaufman Hall’s growth through the development of new solutions and capabilities, and by leveraging data and research to equip Kaufman Hall’s clients and team members with proprietary insights.
In his client work, Dan partners with boards, executive leadership teams and senior strategy leaders to navigate complex strategic decisions, transformative partnerships, and enterprise growth opportunities that position organizations for long-term relevance in a rapidly changing healthcare environment. Drawing on experience spanning hundreds of client engagements and more than 20 years in healthcare and retail strategy, he delivers market insight, collaborative facilitation, and data-driven strategic and financial analysis to help clients translate bold ambitions into clear priorities and measurable results.
A nationally recognized industry leader and trusted advisor to healthcare executives and boards, Dan frequently authors and speaks on emerging market trends, the role of AI in healthcare, and strategic growth. From 2016 through 2023, he led the development and publication of Kaufman Hall's State of Consumerism in Healthcare Report and has been published by The Governance Institute on the role of nonprofit boards in strategic planning. He is sought out by CEOs and chief strategy officers for his perspective on market dynamics, technology-enabled transformation and organizational strategy.
Prior to joining Kaufman Hall, Dan held corporate strategy and finance leadership roles at Walgreens, where he led initiatives focused on customer loyalty strategy and the expansion of retail healthcare services. His experience at the intersection of retail, consumer engagement and healthcare continues to inform his perspective on growth, access and competitive positioning.
Dan holds a bachelor of arts in economics from Colgate University, where he graduated cum laude. He is a chartered financial analyst (CFA) charterholder and serves on the board of directors of the Scleroderma Foundation of Greater Chicago.
