National Hospital Flash Report: January 2025 Data

Hospital performance remains stable at the start of 2025. Inpatient revenue grew more quickly than outpatient revenue in January, and the rate of cost growth has slowed considerably.

Beginning this month, our calendar year-to-date and monthly Operating Margin Indices will include a new data point measuring hospital margin performance with the inclusion of all allocations for the cost of shared services that they receive from their health system. We will also continue to publish our original operating margin data point, which measures performance for a single hospital entity irrespective of allocations.
