Vizient shares feedback with CMS on proposed outpatient payment policies

IRVING, Texas, Sept. 1, 2026 — Yesterday, Vizient® submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on the CY 2027 Medicare Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) Proposed Rule.

In our OPPS comments, Vizient raised concerns with several proposals that would leave hospitals inadequately reimbursed while voicing support for the agency’s work on supply chain resiliency.

Vizient expressed concern regarding the agency’s proposals to expand harmful site neutral payment policy to include certain imaging services and the rapid elimination of the inpatient only (IPO) list. Vizient also urged CMS to reconsider proposals that would lead to hospitals being inadequately reimbursed, such as the nominal market basket, increased remedy offset adjustment and the significant reduction in reimbursement for 340B-acquired drugs.

“Hospitals are managing rising costs, thin margins and intensifying uncompensated care pressures, and several of the agency’s proposed policies would compound that strain, particularly for providers serving the most vulnerable patients,” said Shoshana Krilow, senior vice president of public policy and government relations for Vizient. “We urge CMS to withdraw these proposals and to pursue approaches that support hospital sustainability and patient access.”

At the same time, Vizient expressed support for CMS’s continued efforts to identify voluntary incentives that encourage resiliency-focused purchasing of essential medicines and personal protective equipment.
